"No more naked weigh-ins in high school wrestling, not in this age of cell-phone cameras and easy access to the Internet."

I went to an all mens college in the early 1970s. It went co-ed, as did most similar institutions, shortly after I graduated. When I was there. nudity was mandatory at the pool - no exceptions, except for visiting teams if they wished to compete suited. Most did not.
Nudity was also mandatory for wrestling weigh-ins, which were required for all classes and intramural and intercollegiate meets. These weigh-ins were done in the gym, not the locker room, with little or no privacy.
Do not recall anyone having any issues with these policies. It was just the way things were and accepted as such.
The rest of the indoor athletic facilities were pretty much clothing optional was well. Energy was cheap in those days - the gym was always quite warm - as were the dorms - being naked or minimally attired made practical sense.

These policies changed of course when the school went co-ed and something was certainly lost by the change. Am glad I attended when I did.

"Young sportsmen should not have any modesty and be proud of their bodies, as in fact this clip shows'."

  1. Given the vids which were made and distributed of the boys weighing in, I can understand the new rules. But naked weigh ins have a long tradition so it is a shame and in reality the wrestlers have such great bodies that they have no reason at all to be ashamed of being seen naked.

  2. I was at college in the 1990s and was on the wrestling team. Getting naked for the weigh in at competitions was the absolute norm. Everyone did it. The officials and coaches were all there fully clothed but we never thought about being filmed. Seeing the videos that are around I realise it looks really homoerotic but they are just men's bodies after all.
